RevelSTOKED
This weekend, I went out to Revelstoke to visit my beautiful Swede, Sofie. Super gnar, dude. I managed to catch a ride with a guy coming from Saskatchewan. It was nice to have some good company and save some money on the ride! We got to Revy at about 3. He dropped me off at the Alpine Inn and I hung out with Sofie's roommates while I waited for her to get back from touring. There are about 15 Swedes living in 3 little apartment-style rooms. They all hang out and go skiing/snowboarding together and it is a freakin' blast, let me tell you.
That night, we had dinner and then everyone had drinks together. I really love talking to people (it's always those cool Europeans) that save up and head to another country for a year or a couple months to work and just enjoy living somewhere else. When I went on exchange to Austria the year after high school (where I met Sofie), I had such a great time and I learned so much about not only the world, but myself, too. I found it was such an enriching experience.
We got up fairly early the next morning and went to the resort. Sofie and I stuck together (she snowboarded, I skied). This was only my second time skiing since I broke my leg in March 2016, so I was pretty darn slow at the beginning. I was obviously a total gaper. My body did not trust those slopes! But Sofie is an angel and was so patient with me. Especially since she's been snowboarding pretty much every day for the past 2 months! I'm glad I went at least once this season. Hopefully I can get out a couple more times before the end of winter! Revelstoke had such sick pow, I don't know if anywhere else will live up to it! Where are your favorite places to ski??
Saturday evening, Sofie, her roommate, a Norwegian and I went out to the St Leon hot springs. There's about a 45 minute drive, you have to take a ferry across a lake (which we just missed, so had to wait 45 minutes), and it's about 20 minutes further after that. It was about 8pm by the time we got to the trail, and we hiked in to the beautiful hot springs. We set up our tent and jumped in to that beautiful warm water. Ahhhhhhhh.
As you can see, we ate fancy cheese in the hot springs like queens. I got a little cold during the night so at one point I had to put a sweater just on top of my face... Thought process is a little impaired in the middle of the night. We had another soak the next morning and ate breakfast in the springs. It was so serene. There's one pool up higher that is the hottest and the one at the bottom is the perfect temperature, just like a hot tub.
They got tired of me taking photos (not surprisingly). IT WAS SO PRETTY, THOUGH. Not to mention they're all scandinavian and gorgeous?!?
We left in a bit of a hurry, to catch the ferry back. We actually had to run pretty much the whole way down the hill, and then sped to the ferry. BUT we just made it!! And then got to enjoy the ferry ride and the drive back home, all very tired, I think.
{The ferry attendant yelled at us for sitting on the railings}
We got back to Revy and had some much-needed showers, ate some lunch and I packed up my stuff. One of the Swedes, Alice, was also leaving that day to go back home, so a bunch of them drove us to the bus station so they could all say goodbye to her. I said goodbye to my Sofie and we hopped on the bus to Calgary. 6 hours later and we got there, my awesome roommate Lachlan picked us up and Alice slept on the couch to get a bit of sleep before her flight early in the morning. Such a sweet girl!
I am super behind on homework and just general life, but I am so happy that I got out there this weekend. I had been promising Sofie for two months and I just had to before she leaves again. She's amazing, Revelstoke is amazing, her friends are amazing and the hot springs are amazing. Three days of fun is worth a bit of extra work to catch up. Back to the grind. Does everyone else have a busy week ahead? Hopefully it's a good one and you can find a minute or a couple hours to get out and enjoy this cold weather and beautiful snow. Otherwise, what's the point, you know?
Have a gnarly week, dudes.
