Upper Kananaskis Lake Hike
Upper Kananaskis Lake to Rawson Creek
Today, Mariebelle and I headed out to Upper Kananaskis Lake. The original plan was to do Penstock Loop at Lower Kananaskis Lake. But I am generally unprepared and did not properly look at where the trail started and there is no service in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, so Mariebelle and I kept driving to Upper Kananaskis Lake and parked in the parking lot there.
There were a good 15 or so cars. A busy Sunday in the mountains! The trail starts right by the outhouses and heads off to the left along the lake. There was probably 1-2 metres worth of snow, but a clear packed-down trail through it. The lake itself was covered in snow and lots of people had walked along it. We walked down a little and waved at the people sitting on it, who I believe were attempting to ice fish?? Who knows.
We walked along the edge of the lake until we crossed a bridge, and then continued through the trees until the trail starts heading up to Rawson creek.
We walked maybe halfway up before my poor little bug started to feel quite sick, and we were both pretty hungry. We headed back to the car and drove to Canmore for a bite to eat at Communitea. We then also wandered over to the vintage second hand store right beside it (Hello Vintage), and both snagged some great finds. It seems, too, that our doppelgängers had been in the store just an hour before us. The owner said "Ah, back so soon?" when we walked in. We also went to Switching Gear across the street and I got a great bigger day pack for $25. It was not what we had planned for that day, but I can't say I'm complaining. MB and I always seem to end up doing the opposite of our plan, but having a fabulous time.
I hope everyone has a great week. I hope things go according to plan and, if they don't, I hope you have great company and it turns out alright. Ciao for now!
